Labor Day Celebration - a real homecoming, beginning with Hose Fights
on Genesee Street at 8 AM & continuing well into the night with
fireworks. Sponsored by the Labor Day Picnic Association, this event
began in 1919 as a celebration of the harvest. Come for a community
picnic where the food is already prepared for your enjoyment. Come
for the children's games, horse show, bingo, carnival rides, live entertainment,

Greene
Area Schools
The Greene Central School District provides quality public education for approximately 1400 students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. The school district includes most of the Towns of Greene and Smithville, and includes portions of six other townships. It includes approximately one hundred and thirty square miles, primarily in Chenango County with small sections of both Broome and Cortland Counties. There are four schools; the Primary and Intermediate Schools located on East River Road in the Town of Greene, and the Middle and High Schools located on South Canal Street in the Village of Greene.

Greene Primary School – Grades K-1-2
The Primary School program includes a variety of opportunities for students to learn basic skills while supporting New York State Standards for Early Education. The library, computer labs, and the very successful Morning Program support the classroom in developing reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills. The students enjoy the award winning Arts in Education program that is integrated throughout all content areas. Math and science skills are also emphasized with hands-on programs. Students develop their creative/performance skills with instruction in art, music, and physical education.
Programs and Support for Students K-5
The Elementary Schools share a Guidance Counselor, School Psychologist, and School Nurse Teacher. The Libraries are computer automated. The Elementary Schools support the inclusive special education philosophy. Regular and special education teachers help ensure that children with special needs learn alongside their peers. Students at the Primary and Intermediate Schools participate in the state and nationally recognized Arts in Education program. This program allows students to participate in authentic learning experiences that will engage students on a deeper level, foster an appreciation and respect for all art forms, and inspire inquiry and creativity in the school and community. Greene Cares offers after-school child care programs and supervision for the children of working parents. This program was founded by the Greene P.T.A. and now runs as an independent provider.
Greene Middle School - Grades 6-7-8
The Middle School Program meets the general and specific developmental [intellectual, emotional, physical and social] needs of student’s grades sixth through eighth. The Middle School uses the Team Concept to provide quality academic and integrated curricular programs for its students. All students receive computer instruction in the well-equipped Computer Lab. Students are offered courses in Spanish and French. All students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including vocal and instrumental music, sports, clubs, and enrichment activities, such as Odyssey of the Mind and Drug Awareness Team. The School Library is fully automated and includes access to the Internet.
Greene High School – Grades 9-12
Greene High School offers programs to accommodate all academic abilities. It enjoys one of the highest rates of student graduation within our four-county area. Greene offers academic acceleration in mathematics, foreign languages, English, and social studies, as well as offering the DCMO BOCES New Vision program, a demanding academic program in law & government, allied health, and agriculture/environmental studies. Students are able to enroll in Broome Community College courses, as well as Syracuse University courses, taught at the high school. Academic electives are offered in many areas. Greene High School has an excellent computer system as well as classroom facilities. A majority of our students participate in an extensive array of athletics, music, drama, and extra-curricular activities.
